About the position

The Lead Project Engineer for the Chemical Plant Project Manager role at Honeywell is a pivotal position responsible for overseeing a portfolio of capital projects that span various stages from development to execution. This role is crucial in managing the cost, scope, schedule, and internal reporting requirements of these projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving projects focused on sustainability, infrastructure, maintenance, and reliability within a chemical plant environment. The position requires a strong emphasis on organizational skills and relationship building to effectively influence both internal and external resources, ensuring tangible results are achieved. In this role, the Lead Project Engineer will manage the execution of engineering design, procurement, construction, and the turnover of capital projects to manufacturing. This will be done in accordance with applicable specifications and standards to meet project objectives. The candidate will provide managerial and technical leadership to the project team, utilizing Honeywell's phase gated process, which includes Front-end Loading (FEL) and Front-end Engineering Design (FEED). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects, particularly those with a focus on reducing carbon footprints through sustainability initiatives. The Lead Project Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that capital projects meet their objectives, including cost, schedule, and scope, by managing the development, design, and execution phases. This includes accurate cost budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and reporting. The role also involves facilitating safety and constructability reviews, managing risks, and ensuring all project documentation is completed accurately. The position requires up to 50% travel, reflecting the need for on-site management and oversight of project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a portfolio of multiple capital projects in various stages, from development to execution, managing cost, scope, schedule, and internal reporting requirements.
  • Utilize strong organizational savvy and relationship building skills to influence both internal and external resources, producing tangible results.
  • Manage the execution of engineering design, procurement, construction, and turnover to manufacturing of capital projects in accordance with specifications and standards.
  • Provide managerial and technical leadership to develop and execute capital projects using Honeywell's phase gated process, including FEL and FEED.
  • Ensure capital projects meet project objectives by managing the development, design, and execution of assigned projects.
  • Assure accurate cost budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and reporting of assigned projects.
  • Provide clear scopes of work and construction packages including documentation.
  • Analyze and manage risks on projects and facilitate safety and constructability reviews.
  • Create requisitions for engineered items and develop spare parts lists.
  • Report on cost and schedule attainment, communicating and resolving technical and commercial issues related to project objectives.
  • Initiate the Management of Change and coordinate with the site PSM representative regarding PHA requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • 10+ years experience in Capital Project Management in the Chemical Industry.
  • Led and managed 1-2 large Capital Projects (up to 30+ million).
  • Familiarity with applicable engineering codes/standards and their application.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment procurement and construction processes.
  • Strong estimating skills and experience working with contractors, vendors, and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of SAP and the Management of Change process.
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrated problem solving, and decision making abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Formal training and certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is desired.
  • MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • Prior chemical or industrial plant experience preferred.
  • Experience in the management of financial budgets, projects, troubleshooting, team building, and overall leadership sought.
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt (or Blackbelt) certification or equivalent experience implementing productivity/continuous improvement projects.
