About The Position

The Lead Project Engineer at RECARO Aircraft Seating is responsible for managing customer programs from concept to completion, overseeing the daily activities of the Platform Engineering Team. This role involves ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements, planning and executing development programs, and maintaining capacity and training plans for team members. The position requires a strong focus on quality, safety, and innovative design in the development of aircraft seating products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience in the Aerospace interior industry, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience, or equivalent experience.
  • In-depth understanding of FAA/EASA Part 21 and Part 25 Certification procedures for commercial aircraft seats, including the (E)TSO process.
  • Working knowledge of CAD systems, mechanical design, drafting, and tolerance, as well as Electrical Engineering and rapid prototyping.
  • Advanced knowledge of aircraft documentation systems for after sales and aircraft configuration control systems is desired.
  • Understanding of dynamic and static testing principles.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes used in the aircraft seat industry, including machining, forging, casting, and assembly.
  • Familiarity with concurrent engineering principles and design for manufacturability, maintenance, and cost principles.
  • Proven track record of meeting commitments and strong leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to anticipate technical issues and develop risk mitigation plans.
  • Ability to multi-task and operate in a fast-paced environment with excellent organization skills.
  • Excellent internal and external communication and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a technical lead or team lead is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all Platform Engineering functions of the Design Organization, including Project Engineers and Platform Design Engineers.
  • Oversee the development, documentation, implementation, and continual improvement of Platform Engineering processes.
  • Measure the effectiveness of Platform Engineering processes through Key Performance Indicators and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Structure the Platform Engineering team for clear responsibilities and optimum efficiency.
  • Manage hiring and training of new personnel and conduct performance evaluations of direct reports.
  • Analyze and plan capacity requirements based on workload for the assigned team.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical requirements for RECARO Aircraft Seating products, including OEM and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO9001/AS9100 certification during internal and external audits.
  • Maintain compliance with department and program budgets once approved.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure timely Engineering support for customer programs and resolve issues.
  • Work with the Sales team to prepare customer offers and provide Engineering support as needed.
  • Liaise with airlines, FAA/EASA, installers, and suppliers for timely project completion.
  • Develop tools to track deliverables, testing, and compliance findings for on-time project completion.
  • Coordinate with Global Engineering management to align departmental processes and implement Best Practices.
  • Define training requirements for the Platform Engineering Team and develop training programs.
  • Provide input to program risk analysis and risk management processes, and ensure risk mitigation activities are conducted as per procedures.
  • Release drawing and design documentation of seat components and approve design change proposals according to RECARO standards.
  • Support Management in implementing departmental strategic initiatives.
