About the position

We are actively searching for a skilled Software Engineer/Developer to join our small but dynamic team of IT professionals as an IS Systems Development Services Consultant/Admin at the Department of Financial Institutions! This full-time permanent position is headquartered at the Hill Farms State Office Building on the near west side of Madison. The Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) ensures the safety and soundness of Wisconsin's financial institutions, protects consumers of financial services, and facilitates economic growth. The agency regulates and licenses financial service providers who do business in Wisconsin. As a Software Engineer/Developer, you will provide advanced business analysis and web development for DFI's complex IT projects and consult on technical design and application support issues. Your primary responsibilities include working with division customers, IT managers, developers, operations support, and vendors to collaborate and develop cross-functional business solutions, designing and developing applications that support DFI's unique business needs, providing developers and project teams application development support, troubleshooting and escalation support, leading efforts in the formation of policy, standards, procedures, and guidelines for web application development for developer usage, and providing leadership and technical expertise in the evaluation, adaptation, implementation, and use of web development tools, frameworks, methodologies, and architectures. You will also facilitate quality through code and design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Working with division customers, IT managers, developers, operations support, and vendors to collaborate and develop cross-functional business solutions.
  • Designing and developing applications that support DFI's unique business needs.
  • Providing developers and project teams application development support, troubleshooting, and escalation support.
  • Leading efforts in the formation of policy, standards, procedures, and guidelines for web application development for developer usage.
  • Providing leadership and technical expertise in the evaluation, adaptation, implementation, and use of web development tools, frameworks, methodologies, and architectures.
  • Facilitating quality through code and design reviews.

Requirements

  • Experience in application development using various methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.) and Test-Driven Development.
  • Significant technical consultation experience (analyzing business/user requirements to recommend solutions for application development/enhancements).
  • Experience in a technical leadership role leading an application development team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing micro-services and single-page applications.
