About the position

Under the supervision of a registered nurse or, as appropriate, participates as a team member to facilitate timely flow of surgical procedures. Provide guidance and support for other SPD Techs in the department. Responsible for decontamination, assembly of all instrument sets and trays and packs throughout the facility. Responsible for sterilization and high level disinfection of instruments and supplies. Responsible for the distribution of some supplies and equipment throughout the facility. Participate as a team member to ensure appropriate resources to all internal/external customers. Assure patient safety by strictly adhering to aseptic techniques (Sterile Conscience). Performs OR instrument room service/duties. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or combination of education and experience.
  • 2 - 3 years of related experience.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST or CBSPD) or Certified Surgical Tech (CST or NCCT).

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialized vocational training.
  • 3 - 5 years in a related position.
