About the position

As a technical lead substation design engineer at Black & Veatch, you will be responsible for substation design, including physical design and protective relaying/control. You will actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings, interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors, and mentor junior engineers. This position is hybrid, located in Tualatin, OR, and requires commuting to the office three times a week while working remotely two days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a technical lead substation design engineer
  • Perform substation design, including physical design and protective relaying/control
  • Participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings
  • Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors
  • QA/QC of projects and mentor junior engineers
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables
  • Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects
  • Recognized as a technical specialist by the division having in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or of technical aspects of an industry
  • Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements

  • Substation Design - Physical & P&C
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control of substation design projects
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
