About the position

The Lecture and Symposium Planner at the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning is responsible for planning and managing academic lectures, symposiums, and related programming. This role involves collaboration with academic leaders and faculty to execute high-level programming that aligns with the college's mission, while also managing logistics, budgets, and marketing efforts to drive attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the dean, associate dean for academic initiatives, faculty leaders, program chairs, staff, and others to conceive and execute high-level academic programming.
  • Manage the scheduling, logistics, and budget of programs, including date, location and venue selection, travel arrangements for invited speakers, invitations, menu planning, audio-visual accommodations, live streaming and virtual platforms when required.
  • Manage submission of all required materials to allow alumni to receive continuing education credits when attending lectures and symposiums produced by the college.
  • Responsible for marketing, documentation, and public relations surrounding academic programming to drive attendance.
  • Build and administer the overall academic programming budget, comprising both general and endowed funds, execute reports and present data for informed planning.
  • Develop and use feedback mechanisms, analyze data, and make recommendations for future programming.
  • Stay current on university policies and procedures for events.
  • Maintain detailed records and reconcile expenses.
  • Share information and provide back-up support to the event planner as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years of professional experience supporting academic programs.
  • An interest in design, architecture, and urbanism to ensure alignment with the college's mission while fostering meaningful engagement with contemporary issues in these fields.
  • Proven ability to build and manage budgets.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required.
