About the position

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at UMass Amherst is seeking a non tenure-track lecturer to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomedical engineering. The position is a 9-month appointment, with a start date as early as Spring 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching up to six classes per academic year, advising students, and participating in departmental committees, all while promoting diversity and inclusion within the College of Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomedical engineering.
  • Advise undergraduate students and senior design projects.
  • Advise undergraduate honors students.
  • Serve on departmental and/or college committees as appropriate.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in Engineering or a related field; PhD preferred, with a focus on biomedical-related disciplines.
  • Evidence of college or university-level teaching experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching basic biomedical engineering courses and laboratories.
  • Experience in student recruitment and advising.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Familiarity with modern pedagogical approaches such as flipped classroom and team-based learning.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in advising senior design projects.
  • Experience in teaching a broad range of undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering, including cell and molecular biology, engineering mechanics, and biomedical engineering laboratory techniques.
