The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking applications for a non-tenure track lecturer position, with a 9-month appointment, starting as early as Spring 2024 or Fall 2024. This role is designed for candidates who are passionate about teaching and committed to the mission of diversity and inclusion within the College of Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching up to six biomedical engineering undergraduate and graduate courses each academic year. This includes not only delivering lectures but also advising undergraduate students, overseeing senior design projects, and mentoring undergraduate honors students. Additionally, the lecturer will participate in departmental and college committees as appropriate, contributing to the academic community at UMass Amherst. Candidates are expected to have a strong background in biomedical engineering, with a master's degree being the minimum requirement and a PhD preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate evidence of effective college or university-level teaching experience, showcasing excellent written and oral communication skills. Responsibilities will include teaching foundational biomedical engineering courses and laboratories, engaging in student recruitment and advising, and developing curriculum that reflects modern pedagogical approaches such as flipped classrooms and team-based learning. The lecturer will be expected to cover a broad range of topics, including cell and molecular biology, engineering mechanics, and biomedical engineering laboratory techniques, while also advising senior design projects. The Department of Biomedical Engineering currently comprises 13 full-time faculty members, approximately 28 graduate students, and 370 undergraduates, with plans for significant expansion in faculty and student numbers in the coming years.
