The Legal Assistant/Paralegal position is integral to the firm, providing essential support to attorneys in managing their daily caseloads. This role involves a variety of tasks that are crucial for the smooth operation of the legal process. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting and preparing various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, abstracts, petitions, summary judgments, and legal correspondence. These documents will be prepared for attorney review, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately presented and formatted according to legal standards. In addition to document preparation, the Legal Assistant/Paralegal will organize the service of legal documents and file pleadings with the courts. Scheduling is another key responsibility, as the individual will prepare attorneys for hearings, trials, meetings, interviews, appellate arguments, depositions, and docket calls. Daily communication with clients is also a significant part of the role, requiring proficiency in both telephone and email correspondence, as well as in-person interactions. The candidate will also be tasked with reviewing and redacting confidential documents for filing with various courts, ensuring compliance with legal confidentiality standards. While experience in the legal field is preferred, it is not a strict requirement for consideration. The firm values candidates who have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university, as this educational background is seen as beneficial for the role. This full-time position offers a structured work schedule of 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, and is based in-person at the firm's office in Huntsville, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, abstracts, petitions, summary judgments, legal correspondence, and other legal documents for attorney review.
  • Organize service of legal documents.
  • File pleadings with courts.
  • Schedule and prepare attorneys for hearings, trials, meetings, interviews, appellate arguments, depositions, and docket calls.
  • Maintain daily correspondence with clients via telephone, email, and in person.
  • Review and perform redacting of confidential documents for filing with various courts.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
  • Experience in the legal field is preferred but not required.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university is desired.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Westlaw is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
