About the position

Robert Half is seeking a Legal Assistant for an international law firm in Chicago, Illinois. This role is situated within the legal industry and involves providing essential administrative support to attorneys, particularly in the area of commercial litigation. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for utilizing legal software and various technology tools, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe, and iManage, to ensure efficient task completion. The position requires maintaining and managing attorney schedules, planning and scheduling conferences, teleconferences, depositions, and travel arrangements. In addition to scheduling, the Legal Assistant will prepare and format legal documents such as pleadings, letters, memos, and other related documents. The role also involves handling the opening and closing of new matters, including conflicts submission, and demonstrating proficiency in both federal and state court procedures and filing requirements, including e-filing in federal court. The Legal Assistant will carry out the docketing of dates into a central docketing system and manage electronic and hard copy documents through litigation technology. Ensuring efficient client relations is a critical aspect of this role, as the Legal Assistant will provide necessary documentation to clients as required. The position also includes assisting in the preparation of expense reimbursement documentation and executing any other duties or tasks as assigned or requested by the Office Manager or Business Unit Leader. This position is ideal for someone with a proactive approach to tasks and a strong work ethic, who can work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role within the legal industry.
  • Proficiency in Calendar Management is required.
  • Strong Client Relations skills are essential.
  • Experience with Commercial Litigation is necessary.
  • Adept at using e-File systems.
  • Familiarity with Legal Software is a must.
  • Proficiency in Discovery processes within legal proceedings is required.
  • Demonstrable ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills are required.
  • Keen attention to detail and problem-solving abilities are necessary.
