About the position

An immigration law office located in the Central Fremont area is seeking a part-time legal assistant to join their team. This position offers a unique opportunity to start a career in the immigration legal field, providing valuable experience and exposure to various aspects of immigration law. The legal assistant will work approximately 25 hours a week on-site, assisting attorneys in managing their caseloads and ensuring effective communication with clients. Compensation for this role is based on the candidate's experience, with a pay range of $21 to $25 per hour. The office operates Monday to Friday, and the role requires a commitment to maintaining a professional and organized work environment. The legal assistant will serve as a crucial liaison between the attorney and clients, facilitating communication and ensuring that all necessary documents are collected and organized. This role involves preparing immigration forms and support letters, proofreading case files before submission, and performing various administrative tasks to support the office's operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing and proofreading skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is also required, along with excellent time management skills and a strong desire to learn and grow within the field.

Responsibilities

  • Be the liaison between attorney and clients, communicate with clients, and collect required documents from clients, and help keep track of cases' progress
  • Communicate with clients via email and phone, schedule meetings for attorney
  • Assist attorney in preparing immigration forms, and support letters
  • Organize and compile case files for Attorney to review
  • Proofread the case files before submission
  • Copy and scan documents for filing
  • Mail out the case files
  • Perform some administrative duties, such as ordering office supplies, etc.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent
  • Previous immigration experience is preferred
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Detail oriented, well organized and able to simultaneously manage multiple cases
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Great time management skills and strong desire to learn
