About the position

The Office of State Representative Hubert Vo, Texas House District 149, is seeking a motivated individual to serve as Legislative Director in his Capitol office in Austin. This position is crucial for assisting the Representative in formulating policy and legislative strategies that align with the needs of the constituents and stakeholders in the district. The Legislative Director will play a key role in navigating the legislative process, ensuring that the Representative's initiatives are effectively communicated and advanced through the Texas Legislature. As the primary point of contact between legislative offices, constituents, and stakeholders, the Legislative Director will oversee the preparation of various legislative documents, including bill layouts, one-pagers, speeches for the legislative session, and committee meetings. This role requires a deep understanding of the legislative process and the ability to develop strategies that facilitate the passage of bills. The Legislative Director will also serve as the principal contact for assigned committees and policy areas, ensuring that the Representative is well-informed and prepared for all legislative engagements. In addition to legislative duties, the Legislative Director will be responsible for crafting communications such as press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and constituent correspondence. This position demands strong analytical skills to summarize complex subjects into understandable terms, as well as the willingness to work extended hours and weekends when necessary. The ideal candidate will have a passion for public service and a commitment to representing the interests of the constituents in Texas House District 149.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Chief of Staff in assisting with the formulation of the Member's policy and legislative strategy
  • Primary point of contact between legislative offices, constituents and stakeholders
  • Oversee the preparation of bill layouts, one-pagers, speeches for legislative session, committee meetings, public engagements and other legislation-related communications documents
  • Navigate bills through the legislative process, including by developing strategy and meeting with stakeholders
  • Serve as the principal contact for assigned committees and policy areas
  • Oversee the preparation of committee binders and daily floor reports
  • Crafting communications such as press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and constituent correspondence

Requirements

  • One (1) legislative session of experience in the Texas Legislature (two (2) legislative sessions strongly preferred)
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to analyze complex subjects and summarize into understandable terms
