About The Position

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician I to join their Small Animal LVT team. This position offers a fast-paced, team-oriented, friendly, and supportive environment where new graduates are encouraged to apply. The role involves using technical skills, learning advanced procedures, and managing a variety of patients. Responsibilities will vary depending on the area of service, but will include providing patient care according to hospital protocols, performing phlebotomy and catheter placements, administering medications, monitoring patients recovering from anesthesia, and advising DVM students. The hospital operates 24/7, and shifts may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an AVMA accredited institution.
  • Expected to obtain NYS licensure within 3 months.
  • Up to 1 year relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Providing care to patients according to hospital protocols and clinician orders.
  • Performing phlebotomy and intravenous and urinary catheter placement.
  • Administering medication accurately at the correct dilution and rate and via the correct route.
  • Monitoring patients recovering from anesthesia and following surgical or diagnostic procedures.
  • Using various monitoring equipment such as pulse oximetry, ECG, and non-invasive blood pressure monitors.
  • Advising, guiding, and supporting DVM students throughout your shift.
  • Continuing to develop basic and advanced clinical skills.
