About the position

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. As a Legal Assistant, you will provide administrative support to our legal team and assist with various legal tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in the legal field to gain hands-on experience and contribute to a dynamic legal practice. In this role, you will assist attorneys in managing legal documentation, including drafting, editing, and proofreading contracts, pleadings, and other legal documents. You will also conduct legal research using Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, and other legal databases, while maintaining and organizing case files and documents. Additionally, you will review client files to verify all outstanding bills and lien amounts, resolve statutory/subrogation liens, and ensure that clients are updated on the progress and status changes of their cases. Your responsibilities will also include calculating pro rata reductions for medical bills, drafting settlement documents, negotiating with medical providers to obtain reductions, scheduling appointments, court hearings, and meetings, preparing correspondence, memos, and reports, performing data entry, and maintaining accurate records. You will assist with document production and discovery processes, coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel as needed, and provide general administrative support to the legal team.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required
  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role preferred
  • Proficiency in using legal case management software
  • Strong clerical skills, including typing, filing, and organizing documents
  • Familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
  • Knowledge of contract law and legal drafting principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; must be computer literate
  • Highly organized, excellent time management skills, and strong digital e-filing skills
