About The Position

The Linux Engineer position at Criterion Systems involves supporting a government customer in a 24x7 operational environment. The role focuses on cybersecurity engineering, requiring effective communication with customers regarding service outages and support requests. The engineer will monitor network hardware and applications, execute engineering tasks, and ensure system security and performance. The position demands a detail-oriented individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship (no dual citizenship).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security, or related technical discipline, or four years of professional IT experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) 'Q' Clearance or Top Secret Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain required clearance.
  • Three years of IT work enterprise experience, preferably in the job duties listed.
  • Familiarity with configuration management using Ansible.
  • Knowledge in troubleshooting Linux and Ansible Automation Best Practices.
  • Skilled in Linux-related scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.).
  • Experience with Apache web server configuration and management.
  • Experience analyzing and evaluating the security of IT systems.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, networks, and services.
  • Experience with Red Hat versions 7, 8, and 9 (rhel7/rhel8/rhel9).
  • Experience with network protection devices such as Firewalls and IDS/IPS.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Splunk.
  • Familiarity with Satellite Server, Nutanix, and VMWare.
  • Knowledge of Git/Bitbucket.
  • Experience with Apache/TomCat/NGINX.
  • Familiarity with Kerberos/LDAP/DNS and SSL.
  • Experience with Squid Proxy and NetBox.

Responsibilities

  • Support a government customer in a 24x7x365 operational environment.
  • Communicate with customers regarding service outages and support requests.
  • Document updates of service tickets and track problem resolution.
  • Monitor network hardware and applications to support enterprise IT operations.
  • Execute engineering tasks to resolve issues related to Linux and Unix operating systems.
  • Integrate Microsoft Windows services with Linux/Unix systems.
  • Maintain and monitor system/server infrastructure including patching and upgrades.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to prevent future incidents.
  • Support forensic analysis and break-fix of system-related trouble tickets.
  • Perform user account management including creation and deletion.
