About the position

BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME) for an opportunity in New York, NY. The Linux SME will serve as the first point of contact for end business users in Rates, taking ownership of the onboarding support processes into the MAPS organization. This role requires building and maintaining strong partnerships with business stakeholders, application development personnel, and infrastructure contacts. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and alerting critical trading system environments, troubleshooting complex systems issues, and proactively identifying and resolving problem hotspots. Additionally, the Linux SME will develop tools to drive efficiency and stability improvements, accurately track support efforts for effective management reporting, and implement releases while enforcing change management policies. Major incident management and problem management will also be key responsibilities. The suite of applications supported covers various functional aspects of the business, including pricing and trade capture, risk generation and aggregation, and market and reference data. This role provides exposure to the full front-to-back process from trade inception to feeding risk downstream, and offers the opportunity to work within a global team. The core technical skills beneficial for this role include proficiency in Linux operating systems, ITIL certification or relevant experience, scripting languages such as Unix Shell and Python, and intermediate SQL skills. Familiarity with grid computing, job scheduling, enterprise monitoring tools like ITRS Geneos, and documentation practices using Confluence is also essential. Experience with trading risk systems and familiarity with Bloomberg and Reuters will be advantageous. Personal skills such as resilience, confidence in high-pressure environments, and excellent communication are crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems.
  • ITIL Certification or relevant experience demonstrating application of ITIL principles.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Unix Shell and Python.
  • Intermediate SQL skills, including multi-table joins, grouping results, and stored procedures.
  • Familiarity with grid computing and job scheduling (e.g., Autosys, Crontab).
  • Well-rounded understanding of infrastructure disciplines (network, server, storage, messaging).
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools like ITRS Geneos.
  • Documentation skills using Confluence.
  • Experience with trading risk systems.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg and Reuters.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic coding knowledge of Python, .NET, or Java applications.
  • Awareness of MiFid2 and its impact on pre-trade processes.
  • Familiarity with FIX protocol.
  • Experience with Dynatrace and OpenTelemetry.
