About the position

CFD Research is seeking a talented and motivated Mid-Level Linux System Administrator to join our team in supporting a Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) THAAD simulation lab. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in networking, security, and Linux, with a focus on configuration management being a plus. This role involves monitoring, updating, and supporting the lab, which plays a critical role in the independent testing of the THAAD weapons system. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing firmware and software updates, configuring networks, and setting up new systems. Additionally, the position requires approximately 20% travel each year for flight tests and other related activities. The responsibilities of the Linux System Administrator include the installation, configuration, and maintenance of system hardware and software across multiple Linux platforms. The candidate will provide support for systems and users during Missile Defense Agency (MDA) test events, conduct cybersecurity scans for lab systems, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Managing user accounts on classified systems using multi-factor authentication, performing system backups and restores, and developing Plans of Action & Mitigation (POA&M) to document deviations from approved DISA STIG requirements are also key aspects of this role. The ability to automate Operating System builds using tools like Ansible is highly desirable. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and demonstrate the ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, customer-focused work environment. This position is based at Redstone Arsenal in the Huntsville, AL area and is 100% onsite, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and teamwork in achieving our mission.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of system hardware and software on multiple Linux platforms.
  • Provide support for systems and users during MDA test events.
  • Complete cybersecurity scans for the lab systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for hardware and software.
  • Manage user accounts on classified systems using multi-factor authentication.
  • Perform system backups and restores.
  • Develop Plans of Action & Mitigation (POA&M) to document deviations from approved DISA STIG requirements.
  • Automate Operating System builds using Ansible.

Requirements

  • 5+ years related Linux systems administration experience.
  • Large classified lab networking and hardware knowledge.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Candidate must hold an Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Linux+ and Security+ certifications.
  • Candidate must be able to travel approximately 20% each year (CONUS and OCONUS).

Nice-to-haves

  • Work in configuration management and automated Operating System build.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong Cybersecurity knowledge.
  • THAAD Weapon System experience.
