Linux System Administrator

About the position

The Maritime Solution Systems Portfolio within the Maritime Systems Division (MSD) is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and highly capable Linux system administrator to join the Leidos team at a customer site in San Diego, CA. The business activities within this portfolio include underwater vehicle systems, maritime sensors, supporting information technology and engineering services for complex maritime applications, and the development and support of underwater data acquisition and telemetry systems for distributed sensors used in platform signature measurement.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based servers and systems (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.)
• Manage system performance, monitoring, backups, and troubleshooting
• Ensure system security by configuring firewalls, SSL, VPNs, and applying patches and updates
• Collaborate with the engineering teams to configure environments and troubleshoot system-related issues
• Monitor and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues in a timely manner
• Perform routine system upgrades, patching, and security compliance checks
• Administer and maintain virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, KVM)
• Provide troubleshooting and technical support for escalated issues
• Provide emergency response to critical outages or incidents
• Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for internal use

Requirements

• Skills commensurate with primary responsibilities described above
• Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN, etc.)
• Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, etc.)
• Expertise in shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) and troubleshooting
• Experience with version control tools like Git
• Understanding of system security best practices and tools
• BS degree and 4-8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2-5 years of prior relevant experience
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to complete technical projects independently
• Strong problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance

• Knowledge of the Navy RMF process, including security categorization, risk assessments, continuous monitoring, and ATO
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-2)
