About the position

As the Linux System Administrator you’ll help us connect a more sustainable energy future for more than five million Queenslanders and 241,000 businesses. Your work with us is about every light turned on, every community connected, and every future made possible. You will be responsible for managing and supporting the systems and applications that control the Power Grid, including energy, digital, and telecommunication network management systems. Your primary focus will be on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers, ensuring their effective operation and security. You will also be involved in troubleshooting and resolving issues, maintaining system health across various Linux and Windows servers, and supporting internal customers.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Linux and Windows operating systems in an operational technology environment
  • Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
  • Maintain security controls, monitor for threats, and detect any security issues
  • Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with team members and key stakeholders across Powerlink
  • Coordinate and lead fault management processes to ensure network management systems are highly available and resilient
  • Support the coordination and implementation of new technology and projects as required

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Information Technology
  • Strong background in Linux/UNIX-based operating systems, virtual environments, and Windows Active Directory
  • Comprehensive understanding of security principles as applied to an operational technology environment
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve faults, as well as conduct thorough root cause analysis

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in designing, supporting, and integrating operational technologies
  • Familiarity with Control Systems techniques and technologies
