About the position

As a Linux Systems Administrator at Booz Allen Hamilton, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the technology that supports the Intelligence Community. Your expertise in system administration, combined with your people skills, will make you an invaluable asset to our team. You will be responsible for maintaining the security posture of a Linux computing environment, which supports a team of 30 analysts and developers engaged in data science activities. Your work will involve managing user accounts, ensuring the security of three distinct environments, and monitoring the performance and health of systems and data-processing applications. This role is pivotal in providing insights into network performance and health, allowing your customers to make informed decisions based on the data you help manage. In this position, you will identify problem areas and opportunities for improvement within a mission-critical network. Your ability to translate metrics into actionable information will help your team understand the network better. This role also offers the chance to expand your skillset into areas such as Site Reliability Engineering and Cloud Computing. Responsibilities

  • Manage user accounts and maintain the security posture of three environments.
  • Monitor the performance and health of systems and data-processing applications.
  • Provide insights into network performance through monitoring and performance management.
  • Identify problem areas and opportunities for improvement in a mission-critical network.
  • Translate metrics into actionable information for the team.
  • Share expertise through leadership and mentoring to help the team overcome challenges.
  • Identify new opportunities to modernize the network to achieve client goals.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with system administration for U.S. Government customers.
  • Experience with maintaining and administering virtual machines, both Windows and Linux.
  • Experience administering servers in AWS environments.
  • Experience with maintaining system compliance and accreditation.
  • Experience with setting up and configuring system monitoring tools such as Nagios, Splunk or Elastic.
  • Experience with troubleshooting technical issues in custom software.
  • Experience coordinating larger-scale systems administration efforts across multiple technical teams and/or organizations.
  • TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph.
  • HS diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain IAT Level II certification within 180 days of start date.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with system state management tools, such as Ansible for Linux and Desired State Configuration (DSC) for Windows.
  • Experience with source control tools, such as Git.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python.
  • Experience with system scripting languages, such as Bash and PowerShell.
  • Experience with writing technical documentation.
  • Experience with maintaining Elasticsearch or Elastic-stack products.
  • Experience identifying and resolving security advisories and applying vendor patches.
  • Ability to maintain software development infrastructure supporting three environments, including developing, testing, and producing in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.
  • IAT Level II certification preferred.
