About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for managing, administering, and supporting the IT systems' infrastructure at MIT/LL. This role requires a strong background in Linux administration, with a focus on vulnerability remediation and troubleshooting across various operating systems. The successful candidate will work within a small, fast-paced team and will be expected to support additional technologies as they are adopted by the Laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Manage, administer, and support all MIT/LL IT systems' infrastructure.
• Support additional technologies as they are adopted by the Laboratory.
• Responsible for vulnerability remediation on secure and unclassified Laboratory systems.
• Troubleshoot issues with developer's machines across various operating systems.
• Perform all related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Approximately 5 years of Linux administration experience.
• In-depth knowledge of IT Infrastructure, Networking, system configuration management, and system troubleshooting.
• Experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux and VMware.
• Familiarity with networking applications and protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, SSH, FTP, and HTTP/S.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Ansible, Shell Scripting, PowerShell, or Bash.
• Experience with centralized authentication (SSSD, IDM, Active Directory) and centralized sudo administration via IDM.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience managing classified IT systems, STIGs, SCAPS, RMF.
• Certifications in Red Hat, VMWare, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or Linux Professional Institute Certification.
• Mac experience.
• Experience with virtual machines (e.g., VMWare vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud).
• Network administration experience including managing data center and small network configurations.
