About the position

SAIC is seeking a skilled Linux System Administrator to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in managing the day-to-day operations of our Linux server infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth functioning of our systems, including but not limited to maintaining internet requests related to DNS, RADIUS, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Regular data backups, creating new stored procedures, and managing backup listings are essential duties of this position. The administrator will also analyze error logs, troubleshoot issues, and provide exceptional customer support for web hosting, ISP, and LAN customers, ensuring that all support troubles are addressed promptly and effectively. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Linux System Administrator will be expected to communicate professionally with staff, vendors, and customers. This role requires a proactive approach to enhancing and maintaining tools for the Linux environment and its users. The administrator will be tasked with detecting and resolving service problems, which may range from disaster recovery scenarios to login issues. Furthermore, the position involves installing necessary systems and security tools, collaborating with the Data Network Engineer and other departments to analyze hardware requirements, and making recommendations for acquisitions. Troubleshooting server problems is also a critical aspect of this role, ensuring that any issues are resolved quickly to maintain operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all internet requests inclusive to DNS, RADIUS, Apache, MySQL, PHP.
  • Take regular backups of data and create new stored procedures.
  • Analyze error logs and fix issues while providing excellent customer support for Webhosting, ISP, and LAN customers.
  • Communicate with staff, vendors, and customers in a professional manner.
  • Enhance, maintain, and create tools for the Linux environment and its users.
  • Detect and solve service problems ranging from disaster recovery to login issues.
  • Install necessary systems and security tools.
  • Collaborate with the Data Network Engineer and other departments to analyze hardware requirements and make recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot server problems as they occur.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus six (6) years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, master's degree plus four (4) years of experience, or four (4) years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Strong Linux admin experience in a large enterprise environment (Redhat Enterprise preferred).
  • Strong UI (front end) development skills using Node.js and other JavaScript frameworks such as Angular.
  • Backend Java development experience for OpenShift (or other containers) running environment.
  • Advanced Linux Administration experience.
  • Experience with Apache and Tomcat Web Services for Windows/Red Hat Linux applications.
  • Proficiency in Perl Scripting.
  • Expertise in PowerShell and Azure CLI.
  • Knowledge of VMWARE for server management backup/restore.
