About the position

SAIC is seeking a skilled Linux System Administrator to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in managing the day-to-day operations of our Linux server infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth functioning of our systems, including maintaining internet requests related to DNS, RADIUS, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Regular data backups, creating new stored procedures, and managing backup listings are essential duties that will be part of your daily responsibilities. In addition to these tasks, the Linux System Administrator will analyze error logs and troubleshoot issues, providing exceptional customer support for web hosting, ISP, and LAN customers. Effective communication with staff, vendors, and customers is crucial, and the ideal candidate will exhibit professionalism in all interactions. Enhancing, maintaining, and creating tools for the Linux environment and its users will also be a key aspect of this role. The position requires the ability to detect and resolve service problems, ranging from disaster recovery scenarios to login issues. You will also be responsible for installing necessary systems and security tools, collaborating with the Data Network Engineer and other departments to analyze hardware requirements and make recommendations. Troubleshooting server problems will be a regular part of your duties, ensuring that our systems remain operational and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all internet requests inclusive to DNS, RADIUS, Apache, MySQL, PHP.
  • Take regular backups of data and create new stored procedures.
  • Analyze error logs and fix issues while providing excellent customer support for Webhosting, ISP, and LAN customers.
  • Communicate with staff, vendors, and customers in a professional manner.
  • Enhance, maintain, and create tools for the Linux environment and its users.
  • Detect and solve service problems ranging from disaster recovery to login issues.
  • Install necessary systems and security tools.
  • Work with the Data Network Engineer and other personnel to analyze hardware requirements and make recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot server problems as they occur.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus six (6) years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, master's degree plus four (4) years of experience, or four (4) years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Strong Linux admin experience in a large enterprise environment (Redhat Enterprise preferred).
  • Strong UI (front end) development skills using Node.js and other JavaScript frameworks such as Angular.
  • Backend Java development experience for OpenShift (or other containers) running environment.
  • Advanced Linux Administration experience.
  • Experience with Apache and Tomcat Web Services for Windows/Red Hat Linux applications.
  • Proficiency in Perl Scripting.
  • Expertise in PowerShell and Azure CLI.
  • Knowledge of VMWARE for server management backup/restore.
