The Livestock & Equine Farm Hand at The Asher House is a vital role focused on the daily care and maintenance of farm animals, including equine and livestock. This position is ideal for detail-oriented animal lovers who want to contribute to a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals. Responsibilities include feeding, grooming, cleaning animal living areas, and monitoring animal health, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all animals on the property.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care for all farm animals including feeding, watering, grooming, and handling.
  • Clean and maintain animal living areas, ensuring they are safe and orderly.
  • Prepare isolation areas for incoming animals when necessary.
  • Provide daily enrichment for the animals.
  • Monitor animal health and report any behavioral or medical concerns.
  • Maintain property grounds to ensure an ideal environment for the animals.
  • Assist in repairs and ground keeping as needed.
  • Hold animals for vet and farrier appointments.
  • Communicate around animal supply levels and maintain inventory.
  • Ensure animals are secured during visitor arrivals.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience working with horses and large animals.
  • Experience working on a farm with livestock.
  • Ability to handle outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete tasks independently or as directed.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, bend, and be on feet for 8 hours in various terrains.
  • Ability to recognize animal behaviors and respond appropriately for safety.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Must be 21 years or older and have a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with and training horses, especially draft horses.
