About the position

The primary purpose of the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This supervision must adhere to current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, as required by the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Supervisor. The LVN is responsible for ensuring that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Essential duties include directing the daily functions of nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with facility policies and procedures, and participating in the development and implementation of the facility's quality assurance program. The LVN will also be involved in administrative functions such as completing medical forms, maintaining the Daily Census Report, and ensuring that all nursing service personnel comply with their respective job descriptions. In addition to administrative duties, the LVN will be responsible for charting and documentation, drug administration, personnel functions, nursing care, staff development, safety and sanitation, equipment and supply functions, care plan and assessment functions, and budget and planning functions. The role requires a strong commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents and staff, as well as ensuring that nursing care is provided in accordance with established policies and procedures. The LVN will also participate in employee performance evaluations, assist in training department personnel, and ensure that all nursing personnel are following established safety regulations. The position requires the ability to work independently, demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills, and maintain a positive and supportive environment for residents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents.
  • Supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
  • Direct the daily functions of nursing assistants in accordance with facility guidelines.
  • Complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting as necessary.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the facility's quality assurance program.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and make staffing recommendations.
  • Ensure that nursing service personnel comply with their job descriptions and facility policies.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections as required.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or be a graduate of an approved LPN/LVN program.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN/LVN in this state.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws and regulations pertaining to nursing care facilities.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
  • Experience in long-term care facilities.
