About the position

As a Fabricator I at Buck Knives, you will learn the art of knife making, a skill that is both rewarding and essential to our purpose-driven mission of creating knives that last for generations. This position requires no prior experience, as we provide comprehensive training to ensure you are well-equipped to operate various machines and perform tasks involved in the knife manufacturing process. You will be trained in Lean Manufacturing principles, which will guide you in operating machines that stamp, grind, press, polish, and cut knives, as well as prep and heat temper them. Your role will involve inspecting parts for quality assurance, utilizing measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers, and performing visual inspections. You may also assist in machine setup and carry out minor maintenance tasks to ensure smooth operations. Responsibilities

  • Reads job specification process sheets to determine the procedure required at assigned work station(s).
  • Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
  • Positions work piece against stops or aligns parts in dedicated fixturing.
  • Operates machinery.
  • Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Changes surface preparation wheels and readjust machines when necessary.
  • Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
  • Assists machine operators to set up machine, stack, mark, pack, and transport finished workpieces.
  • Responsible for keeping work area clean and safe.
  • Practices 5S in the workplace.
  • Complies with all standard safety practices, safety rules, and all Company rules and policies.

Requirements

  • No prior experience necessary; training will be provided.
  • Ability to stand for a 10-hour shift and perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 40 pounds.
  • Familiarity with measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Basic mechanical skills for minor machine maintenance.
