The Machine Operator position involves working under the direct supervision of the Manufacturing Manager and the assigned lead person. The primary responsibility of the Machine Operator is to perform various tasks including cutting, laying out, punching, bending, drilling, and stamping of materials as detailed on the shop drawings. This role requires a keen understanding of the sequence of operations by reading shop drawings and specifications, ensuring minimal operator defects during the process. The operator will also be responsible for changing or replacing tooling and consumables on the machines as needed, using proper setting techniques to avoid damage to the machines, and accurately reading and understanding a tape measure to 1/16 inch. In addition to the technical skills, the Machine Operator must follow assigned work instructions to prepare items for processing, perform simple maintenance diagnosis of machines, and utilize overhead cranes, gantries, forklifts, and bi-lifts to move materials. Maintaining a clean and organized work area is essential, as is contributing to a safe working environment by being responsible for quality, safety, organization, and cleanliness in all areas of operation. The role also emphasizes teamwork, requiring effective communication and collaboration with others.

Responsibilities

  • Determines the sequence of operation by reading the shop drawings, specifications, and work orders.
  • Cuts, lays out, punches, bends, drills, or stamps materials as detailed on the shop drawings with minimal operator defects.
  • Changes or replaces tooling and/or consumables on the machines as needed.
  • Uses proper setting technique of the machines to avoid damage to the machines.
  • Accurately reads and understands a tape measure to 1/16 inch.
  • Follows assigned work instructions to prepare items to be processed.
  • Performs simple maintenance diagnosis of machines.
  • Uses overhead cranes, gantries, forklifts, and bi-lifts to move materials.
  • Keeps assigned work area clean and organized at all times and assists with keeping other work areas clean and organized.
  • Contributes to a safe working environment by being responsible for quality, safety, organization, and cleanliness in all areas of operation.
  • Contributes to team effort by communicating and working well with others.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years recent experience in a welding environment desired.
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language.
  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, tape measure, and comprehend documents such as safety rules and operating procedures.
  • Regular and on-time attendance is required.
  • Ability to work well with others.
