The position involves performing a variety of repetitive machining duties that are essential for making and repairing tooling and parts necessary for the production of finished products. This role requires a general understanding of machining techniques and procedures. The individual will be responsible for setting up and operating various types of machinery, including manual lathes, mills, programmable CNC turning centers, sanders, and grinders. The work is performed with limited supervision, following broad instructions provided by the Plant Superintendent and/or the Millwright Level C. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the safe operation of machining equipment while executing routine tasks that contribute to the production process. The machinist will interpret technical drawings and sketches to plan and determine the appropriate working procedures. This includes performing layout work and creating sketches of parts as needed. Precision is critical in this role, as the machinist will verify conformance to tolerances or specifications using precise measuring devices. Additionally, the role involves assembling, fitting, aligning, and adjusting machinery and equipment to very close tolerances, as well as adjusting and lubricating machines to ensure optimal performance. Participation in monthly safety meetings is also a key responsibility, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe working environment. The machinist may also be assigned additional duties by the Plant Superintendent and/or the Millwright Level C, which may vary based on operational needs. Overall, this position plays a vital role in the manufacturing process, ensuring that all tooling and parts meet the required specifications for production.
