About the position

The Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator/Engineer at BNY is responsible for the administration and optimization of z/OS Db2 databases. This role involves managing database development, maintenance, and support operations, ensuring optimal service delivery. The position requires collaboration with application developers to leverage new Db2 features and enhance business value, while also focusing on continuous improvement within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage z/OS Db2 databases including backups, statistics, reorgs, and physical database design.
  • Perform problem resolution, SQL and database performance tuning, backups and recoveries, and disaster contingency testing.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements by developing reports/tools to manage and optimize database environments.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve database incidents including performance bottlenecks and production batch incidents.

Requirements

  • College/Technical Degree with 8-10 years of technical experience in database administration.
  • Minimum 5 years of IBM Db2 Database Administrative Experience with mainframe technologies.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of Db2 - SQL, Performance Management, and Utilities for z/OS.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complex business and technical problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mainframe related tools such as BMC, Online performance monitoring tools, ISPF, SMS.
  • Knowledge of distributed WEB access and SQL performance tuning.
