About the position

The Maintenance Person role is designed to assist Fleet Technicians in ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency of the fleet vehicles. The position involves learning to perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs under the guidance of experienced technicians, with a focus on reducing vehicle downtime and improving overall fleet reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to perform required inspections and preventive maintenance under the guidance of fleet technician II & III or fleet manager.
  • Learn to perform FAI/CVI inspections on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, and light-duty vehicles.
  • Learn to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Learn to perform quality maintenance repairs on all fleet vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Learn to perform maintenance repairs on all vehicles including inspections, scheduled repairs, and road-call repairs.
  • Address all driver vehicle inspection report write-ups timely and correctly under guidance.
  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications.
  • Document all work performed on work orders using complaint, cause, and correction format.
  • Learn and develop efficiency in Sysco computer programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training from a 2-year school (preferred).
  • Current and valid driver's license (CDL preferred).
  • Basic knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and components.
  • Basic knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment.
  • Basic knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG).
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge.

Nice-to-haves

  • Annual Inspector Certification (preferred, not required).
  • Brake Inspector Certification (preferred, not required).
  • ASE certifications - Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks (preferred, not required).
  • 609 HVAC Certification (preferred, not required).
  • Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers.
