About the position

As a Mammography Technologist, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality imaging services to patients while ensuring their safety and comfort. This position requires adherence to strict protocols and regulations regarding radiation use, as well as a commitment to patient care and education. You will be responsible for operating mammography equipment to produce clear and accurate images, verifying patient identification, and maintaining detailed logs of patients seen. Your role will also involve preparing patients for imaging procedures, educating them about the process, and ensuring that all safety measures are followed to protect both patients and staff from unnecessary radiation exposure. In addition to technical skills, you will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, as you will be interacting with patients and their families regularly. You will be expected to maintain a clean and organized work environment, perform quality assurance checks on equipment, and stay updated on the latest technology and safety protocols. The Mammography Technologist must also comply with the regulatory standards set by the MQSA and ACR, ensuring that all imaging practices meet the highest standards of quality and safety. This position requires a commitment to continuous professional development, including maintaining necessary licenses and certifications. Responsibilities

  • Follow physicians' orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation.
  • Verify proper patient identification on the study and route it to PACS.
  • Maintain a daily log of patients seen.
  • Operate the equipment to produce high-quality images.
  • Obtain essential information from patients, medical records, and previous scans for clinical correlation.
  • Prepare and assist patients for mammographic imaging as requested by a physician.
  • Provide patient care with dignity and respect for the individual.
  • Educate patients about the procedures to be performed.
  • Obtain optimum quality images through proper anatomical positioning and techniques in accordance with protocols designed by radiologists.
  • Observe and follow safety procedures including radiation protection and universal precautions.
  • Perform daily checks and weekly quality assurance on equipment.
  • Complete all documentation when performing quality assurance.
  • Carry out quality control checks on equipment, reporting deficiencies to proper personnel.
  • Work independently and demonstrate flexibility in work assignments.
  • Demonstrate commitment to total quality management and service excellence.
  • Stay familiar with changes regarding technology and safety for self, patients, and visitors.
  • Process studies onto CD or Film format for patient study requests while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and working area.
  • Maintain familiarity with emergency drugs and equipment's location.
  • Maintain familiarity with the department's booking, scheduling, duplication, and PACS systems.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through training and continuing education requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge in human anatomy and cross-section anatomy, proper positioning skills, and appropriate utilization of protocols and scanning techniques.
  • Practice regulatory standards of MQSA and ACR.
  • Promote and follow WMG policies, rules, and regulations.

Requirements

  • New York State License and ARRT Certification with Mammography modality.
  • Ability to maintain superior diagnostic imaging in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Excellent patient and people skills.
  • Strong knowledge in human anatomy and cross-section anatomy, proper positioning skills, and appropriate utilization of protocols and scanning techniques.
  • High knowledge of a variety of routine procedures and applications.
  • Ability to maintain continuing education credits and professional licenses required by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Protection, and The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
