About the position

The Mammography Technologist at Mercy Health Corporation is responsible for operating radiologic equipment and performing mammography procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing diseases. This part-time position requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential shifts on weekends and holidays, and may involve additional duties related to x-ray exams and bone density procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform breast imaging procedures and corroborate patients' clinical history with the procedure.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, providing instructions to minimize anxiety and ensure cooperation.
  • Select and operate imaging equipment and accessory devices to perform procedures successfully.
  • Position patients to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting their comfort.
  • Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examination and explain the need for breast compression during mammography.
  • Determine exposure factors and apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
  • Use radiology information systems, including PACS, to complete required records and reports, and submit images for physician review.
  • Assume responsibility for the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Verify informed consent for interventional procedures as required.
  • Assist radiologists and physicians during procedures and perform breast specimen radiography as assigned.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed if assigned to perform radiographer duties.
  • Perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures under physician supervision and in compliance with policy.
  • Perform surgical and portable radiographic exams as needed.
  • Initiate basic life support action when necessary and provide patient education.
  • Maintain control of inventory and supplies, providing input for supply and equipment decisions.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and assume responsibility for assigned area.
  • Provide practical instruction for students and partners.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Mammography Technologist or equivalent.
  • Experience in performing mammography procedures and operating radiologic equipment.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection principles and patient safety protocols.
  • Ability to evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper documentation.
  • Strong communication skills to provide patient education and instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with x-ray exams and bone density procedures.
  • Familiarity with radiology information systems and PACS.
