About the position

The Manager - Clinical Biomechanist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Gait Laboratory. This position entails interpreting and ensuring the application of policies while ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies. The Manager will manage and conduct motion analysis evaluations, and with guidance from department leadership, will develop and execute the scientific direction of the laboratory. This role also involves planning and driving the development and implementation of programming, education, and research initiatives in collaboration with departmental leadership. The Manager will propose and lead revisions to Gait Laboratory policies and procedures as necessary and provide oversight to ensure that all operations align with the hospital's standards and regulatory requirements. In addition to operational oversight, the Manager will train, develop, and mentor laboratory staff on research protocols, equipment, and processes. This includes writing and contributing to scientific manuscripts and research grants, ensuring that the laboratory remains at the forefront of clinical research in biomechanics. The role requires a strong background in gait and motion analysis testing, particularly with 3D motion capture systems, and experience working with clinical and pediatric populations. The Manager will also be expected to lead projects from inception to completion, including resource planning and management, while fostering communication and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operating procedures for the Gait Laboratory including direct supervision of laboratory staff.
  • Interpret and ensure consistent application of policies.
  • Assure compliance of laboratory with hospital policies and outside regulatory agencies.
  • Manage and conduct motion analysis evaluations for research protocols.
  • Develop and execute the scientific direction of the laboratory with guidance from the Principal Investigator and Director.
  • Plan and drive development and implementation of programming, education, and research initiatives in collaboration with departmental administration.
  • Propose and lead revisions to Gait Laboratory policies and procedures as necessary and provide oversight.
  • Train, develop, and mentor staff around research protocols, equipment, and processes.
  • Write and contribute to scientific manuscripts and research grants.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, or related field.
  • PhD or Clinical Doctorate preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in gait/motion analysis testing.
  • Experience working with 3D motion capture system (Vicon Nexus) required.
  • Experience working with wearable sensors preferred.
  • Experience in clinical and pediatric populations preferred.
  • Research experience preferred.
  • Experience writing/contributing to scientific manuscripts and research grants.
  • Experience in managing clinical research lab in terms of resources preferred.
  • Experience working with leadership to understand and address clinical research requirements preferred.
  • Experience in guiding and training team members around clinical exercise research procedures, safety, and compliance preferred.
  • Experience managing at least 1-2 people preferred.
  • Extensive experience leading projects/processes end to end including resource planning and management, and communication and collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and external partners preferred.
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams preferred.
