About the position

The Manager of Food Safety Audit at United Airlines is responsible for overseeing the Food Safety & Quality Assurance program, ensuring compliance with US and international food safety regulations across suppliers, clubs, lounges, and hospitality partners. This role involves conducting audits, managing supplier approvals, and driving continual improvement in food safety practices. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills to foster a culture of food safety within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Own the United Airlines Food Safety & Quality Assurance program to ensure compliance by suppliers, Clubs & Lounges, and hospitality partners.
  • Conduct audits of facilities and monitor food safety KPIs with a focus on continual improvement.
  • Prioritize food safety audits based on risk and lead inspections at supplier and contract caterer locations.
  • Issue audit reports and corrective action plans to close identified gaps.
  • Provide training to suppliers and partners on food safety programs as defined in United Airlines manuals.
  • Drive investigations for non-conformances and customer complaints with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Manage the supplier approval program to ensure sourcing from approved suppliers.
  • Conduct item risk assessments and approve items that meet United Airlines requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance against food safety KPIs and participate in management review meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records in food safety software systems.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4-8 years in a Food Safety and Quality Assurance role within fast-paced food manufacturing or food services environment.
  • HACCP Certification and Seafood HACCP Certification.
  • PCQI Qualification.
  • Knowledge of FDA-Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and USDA requirements for food production.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review and interpret technical documentation.
  • Attention to detail and strategic thinking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with FSSC or other GFSI scheme, FSPCA, and FDA/USDA audits.
  • Experience with international regulations.
  • CFS Certification and Lead Auditor Certification.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification.
  • Knowledge of GFSI schemes and airline catering operations.
  • Advanced computer skills with food safety software programs.
