About the position

The Manager I, Facility position at Denver Public Schools is a full-time role located at Lena Archuleta Elementary School in Far Northeast Denver. This position is responsible for managing the maintenance staff at the assigned facility, which includes custodial, grounds, and pool maintenance. The primary objective is to ensure that the facility's building systems, such as structural, electrical, and HVAC, are operational while prioritizing the safety and security of both staff and students. The role requires the manager to implement policies, procedures, and programs relevant to their functional unit, set clear goals, organize work plans, and ensure adherence to daily operational items including budgets and schedules. In this role, the manager will apply managerial thinking and decision-making to deliver results and ensure project success. They will provide leadership to their teams, solve problems, and analyze performance to ensure that targets are met. The manager will also be responsible for conducting training sessions, presenting findings, and improving team performance through coaching and mentoring. The position requires the manager to oversee custodial activities, manage maintenance activities of facility grounds, and communicate with other district departments for major repairs that cannot be completed by the assigned staff. The Manager I, Facility will also be involved in troubleshooting and performing minor repairs on building systems, monitoring safety and security, and responding to facility emergencies on a 24/7 basis. The role includes scheduling and delegating tasks based on maintenance priorities, maintaining the working order of facility tools, and conducting fire alarm drills. This position is essential in supporting the educational mission of Denver Public Schools by maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the maintenance staff at the assigned facility, including custodial, grounds, and pool maintenance.
  • Ensure operational functionality of building systems such as structural, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and programs relevant to the functional unit.
  • Set clear goals, organize work plans, and divide work accordingly.
  • Ensure adherence to daily operational items, including budgets and schedules.
  • Provide leadership to teams in their area of responsibility.
  • Solve problems and mitigate issues or situations as they arise.
  • Analyze performance and follow up to ensure achievement of targets.
  • Collaborate with other functions and teams to gain credibility and cooperation across the organization.
  • Conduct training sessions and present findings and materials to staff.
  • Improve team performance through coaching, feedback, and mentoring.
  • Supervise custodial activities according to appearance standards after use.
  • Manage maintenance activities of facility grounds and housekeeping activities.
  • Communicate with Facility Maintenance and other District departments for major repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on building systems and furniture.
  • Monitor safety and security of the building and grounds, conducting monthly fire drills.
  • Lead, supervise, coordinate, and train facility staff, conducting performance evaluations.
  • Respond to facility emergencies on a 24/7 schedule.
  • Schedule and delegate tasks based on maintenance priorities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in facility management or maintenance.
  • Two or more years of management responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to facility management.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop and interpret data and manage resources effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Knowledge of basic HVAC maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of plumbing troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring and safety guidelines, preferred.
