About the position

TGK Automotive Specialists is a locally-owned business that has been serving clients with honesty and integrity since 2007. The Manager-in-Training (MIT) plays a crucial role in overseeing the overall performance of the store, both financially and operationally. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining exceptional guest services while ensuring maximum sales and profitability through effective expense control, human resource management, and management of operating costs and shrink. The MIT will work closely with employees to set expectations, communicate regularly about job responsibilities, and provide coaching and counseling to foster desired behaviors. Regular meetings and store audits will be conducted to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. In addition to managing people, the MIT will analyze business trends and develop plans to maximize sales, aiming to meet or exceed sales and profit targets as outlined in the Store Margin Statement. Financial transparency is key, as the MIT will share financial targets and results with employees during store meetings. The role also involves reviewing invoices and daily reports to identify growth opportunities while maintaining proper controls over the company's physical and financial assets. The MIT will ensure the cleanliness of the store, uphold high housekeeping and merchandising standards, and conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of management experience or equivalent business experience in the automotive industry. They should possess a proven ability to coach team members, develop and meet defined goals, and consistently exceed sales and profit targets. While previous experience as an Automotive Technician is preferred, it is not required. A valid driver's license is necessary for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Set expectations and communicate regularly with employees on job responsibilities, goals, training, development, and overall customer service.
  • Hold employees accountable for job responsibilities, training, and goals by coaching or counseling them toward desired behaviors.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures by conducting regular meetings and store audits.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire new employees in partnership with HR as business needs dictate.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for all employees at regular intervals.
  • Analyze and measure business trends; develop and implement plans to maximize sales and meet or exceed sales and profit targets.
  • Share financial targets and results with all employees during store meetings.
  • Review invoices and daily reports to identify opportunities for business growth.
  • Maintain proper controls over the company's physical and financial assets.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the store at all times, maintaining 'Best in class' housekeeping and merchandising standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and request maintenance as necessary.
  • Ensure timely return of unused parts to vendors and forward credits to Accounting.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in management or equivalent business experience in the automotive industry.
  • Previous experience in managing and coaching team members to success through effective communication.
  • Proven ability to develop and meet monthly, quarterly, and annual plans with clearly defined goals for their individual store.
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting and exceeding sales and profit goals.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as an Automotive Technician or similar position preferred, but not required.
