The James Beard Foundation (JBF) is a prominent cultural institution dedicated to honoring and advancing the culinary arts industry. As a 501(c)(3) national non-profit organization, JBF brings its mission to life through various initiatives, including the prestigious annual James Beard Awards, community-focused programs, advocacy, partnerships, and events across the country. In the wake of a transformative year marked by increased philanthropic support, JBF is seeking a Manager of Development Operations to play a pivotal role within its Development Department. This department is structured into four key verticals: Major Gifts/Campaign, Institutional Giving, Special Fundraising Initiatives, and Membership. The Manager of Development Operations will provide essential support to the administration and operations of these areas, ensuring that the department functions effectively and efficiently. This position is ideal for a highly motivated, process-driven individual who is eager to develop skills across a broad range of Development functions while contributing to the ambitious, metrics-driven growth strategy of one of the nation's leading arts and culture organizations. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Development, the Manager of Development Operations will oversee all operational needs of the department, including data management, research, membership support, and event support. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with various aspects of development work, fostering a culture of philanthropy and supporting the Foundation's mission to create a significant impact in the culinary arts community.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Development team to ensure consistent communication with members, donors, prospects, and event attendees.
  • Provide administrative support to the JBF Patron Program, including answering membership inquiries and producing member donation receipts.
  • Manage Patron member benefits, including inventory management of swag and fulfillment tracking using the Loop & Tie platform.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of Membership on a metrics-driven strategy for a 3-year growth plan for JBF Patron Membership.
  • Lead all data and reporting functions of the Department using the Salesforce platform, ensuring data integrity and hygiene.
  • Generate mailing lists and segmentations for development communications and events.
  • Oversee systems for prospecting, research, and pipeline development, developing approximately 100 prospect research profiles annually.
  • Prepare advance research briefings on attendees for JBF's national events and support events like the Annual Gala with research briefings for leadership.
  • Track institutional proposals and reports in collaboration with the Director of Institutional Giving.
  • Provide operational support to the JBF Auction program and Development initiatives at the JBF Awards.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in a development office or managing data-driven work.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other major database systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong initiative and a self-starter attitude with a drive to succeed.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of various teams.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects.
  • Versatility and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
