About the position

The Manager of Marketing and Communications at Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the organization's public image and brand visibility. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, this position is responsible for supporting various public relations tasks and communication projects. The Manager will collaborate closely with the administrative team, Directors, Managers, promotional vendors, and media partners to promote marketing initiatives, health awareness activities, and community-based events. This role also involves managing participation in system-wide campaigns aimed at bolstering the organization's reputation within the community. A key responsibility of the Manager is to develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with NMMC's Mission and Vision. This includes acting as a community liaison to foster positive relationships with various stakeholders, including community organizations, advocacy groups, and provider offices. The Manager will serve as the organization's spokesperson, responding to media inquiries and distributing press releases as necessary. Additionally, the role requires advising and consulting with the CEO and other leadership to promote employee and community relations programs. The Manager will also maintain active participation in social, cultural, and civic organizations, providing onsite support for NMMC-sponsored events and forums. This includes organizing speaking engagements and presentations tailored to different audiences, ensuring effective communication of key messages. The position requires maintaining relationships with local media contacts and strategizing with contracted media firms to coordinate interviews for NMMC spokespersons. Furthermore, the Manager will oversee NMMC's social media platforms, ensuring that all communications align with the organization's marketing objectives. The role also involves tracking marketing activities and implementing strategic initiatives to drive member growth and retention, while continuously researching best practices in healthcare communications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a communication strategy for the organization that builds and maintains a positive organizational image.
  • Act as a community liaison to establish and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and advocacy groups.

  • Compose and distribute press releases as needed.
  • Advise and consult with CEO, Directors/Managers, and Medical Staff leadership on employee and community relations programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with County agencies and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in social, cultural, and civic organizations to enhance NMMC's community presence.
  • Provide onsite support and management for NMMC-sponsored events and forums.
  • Organize speaking engagements and presentations for various audiences.
  • Conduct presentations and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and healthcare organizations.
  • Maintain working relationships with local and specialty media contacts.
  • Strategize with media firms to coordinate interviews for NMMC spokespersons.
  • Manage NMMC's social media platforms and ensure alignment with marketing messaging.
  • Track marketing requisitions and monitor client relationship management database.
  • Implement strategic initiatives to drive member growth and retention.
  • Research healthcare organizations for best practices and share findings with management.
  • Sustain routine communication through correspondence and maintain a strategic communications marketing plan.
  • Leverage Public Relations opportunities for NMMC and create media advisories and press releases.
  • Promote NMMC in current and new business development markets.
  • Collaborate with writers, web designers, and graphic artists to develop promotional materials.
  • Highlight departmental accomplishments for media opportunities.
  • Manage inventory and distribution of NMMC branded materials.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary for NMMC.

Requirements

  • A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college in Business Administration, Communications, Management, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Public relations experience involving press and communications media, employee communications, community affairs, and governmental affairs is preferred.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and broad communications experience with depth in media relations.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of social media management tools.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Outgoing personality with enthusiasm for motivating people.
  • Demonstrates analytical and persuasion/negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with public affairs and public relations experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a motor vehicle.
