About the position

The Manager of Medical Records at Knapp Medical Center is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the Health Information Management (HIM) department. This position entails planning, organizing, and influencing departmental activities to ensure the effective maintenance of hospital medical records while adhering to continuous quality improvement standards. The Manager will work closely with various stakeholders, including patients, their families, and healthcare team members, to ensure that the HIM department operates efficiently and effectively. This role requires a strong focus on maintaining operations within budgetary parameters while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the HIM department, the Manager will be responsible for implementing policies and procedures that enhance the quality of medical records and ensure the confidentiality and security of patient information. The Manager will also play a key role in training and mentoring staff, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability within the department. This position is essential in supporting the hospital's mission to provide exceptional healthcare services to the community and to uphold the high standards for which Knapp Medical Center is recognized. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of health information management processes and be able to evaluate qualitative issues effectively. They will be expected to lead initiatives that promote best practices in medical record management and contribute to the overall success of the hospital's healthcare delivery system.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and influence department activities related to medical records management.
  • Ensure the maintenance and quality improvement of hospital medical records.
  • Maintain operations within budgetary parameters.
  • Interact effectively with patients, their significant others, and other health team members.
  • Implement policies and procedures to enhance the quality of medical records.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Train and mentor staff within the HIM department.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable regarding the Health Information Management Department process and its application.
  • Minimum two years of HIM management or supervisory experience.
  • Successful completion of college-level courses in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and coding.
  • Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding systems is required.
  • Successful completion of an education program for Registered Health Information Technician (R.H.I.T.) or Registered Health Information Administrator (R.H.I.A.) is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a related field is preferred.
