About the position

The Manager of Scientific Communications at The Farmer's Dog will play a pivotal role in enhancing the company's engagement with veterinary professionals and consumers alike. This position is designed for a strategic thinker who is also adept at execution, with a focus on developing and optimizing nutritional, scientific, and medical content that resonates with both audiences. The primary goal is to ensure that all communications are medically appropriate, engaging, and valuable, thereby fostering trust and advocacy for The Farmer's Dog's products among veterinary professionals and consumers. In this role, you will be responsible for creating a comprehensive education strategy tailored to the veterinary space, which includes measuring its effectiveness and adapting it as necessary. You will collaborate closely with the Veterinary Professional Affairs and Relations (VPAR) team to produce a variety of educational materials, such as webinars, continuing education sessions, and lunch-and-learn events. Your expertise will also be utilized in writing and speaking engagements, including white papers and presentations at trade shows and veterinary schools. A significant aspect of this role involves engaging with veterinary professionals through various channels, addressing their inquiries, and providing personalized interactions that enhance their understanding of The Farmer's Dog's offerings. You will also be tasked with educating consumers about pet nutrition and care through written and audio-visual media. Collaboration with the R&D team will be essential as you contribute to new and existing medical studies and products, ensuring that all educational content is scientifically accurate and compliant with legal standards. The position requires a proactive approach to understanding the challenges faced by veterinary professionals and designing innovative solutions that address these needs. You will be expected to adapt to the diverse demands of each initiative, leveraging digital, physical, and in-person channels effectively. This role is not just about maintaining the status quo; it is about reimagining how The Farmer's Dog interacts with the veterinary community and driving meaningful change in an industry that is ripe for transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the holistic education strategy for the veterinary space, measuring its effectiveness.
  • Support the Veterinary Professional Affairs and Relations (VPAR) team in creating medical and educational content, including webinars and educational materials.
  • Write and speak as an expert in veterinary nutrition at industry events, trade shows, and veterinary schools.
  • Engage with veterinary professionals to address their inquiries and provide personalized interactions.
  • Educate consumers through written and audio-visual media about pet nutrition and care.
  • Collaborate with R&D on medical studies and product development.
  • Work with consumer research and the VPAR team to propose new research and adjust materials based on feedback.
  • Partner with Brand and Legal teams to ensure accuracy in public-facing medical and educational content.
  • Adapt to diverse demands of initiatives, maximizing the use of digital, physical, and in-person channels.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in scientific communications or a related field, particularly within the veterinary or pet care industry.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary medicine and nutrition.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and engagingly.
  • Experience in creating educational content for veterinary professionals and consumers.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and advocate for resources and prioritization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital marketing and social media strategies related to veterinary education.
