About the position

The Manager of Retail Construction at Amazon Worldwide Grocery will lead a team responsible for developing innovative grocery store spaces for Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market. This role involves strategic oversight of construction project management, focusing on large-scale projects, cost optimization, and maintaining high-quality standards while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive large-scale, high-impact projects including new store builds, remodels, and special initiatives across multiple regions (600+ locations)
• Leverage industry expertise to optimize project estimations and reduce construction costs while maintaining quality
• Cultivate and manage relationships with top-tier contractors
• Navigate complex lease agreements and work letters to maximize tenant improvement allowances and landlord credits
• Lead cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
• Implement project management methodologies to enhance communication and ensure regulatory compliance
• Manage a team of construction managers and OFI coordinators, fostering career development
• Approve cost projections and critical path schedules developed by the project management team
• Ensure overall project coordination including FF&E, Construction, and Commissioning
• Manage project schedules, capital expenditure budgets, and operational expenses
• Oversee General Contractor (GC) pool and qualify new GCs
• Participate in design development to ensure constructability and cost requirements
• Oversee change order negotiations and contract compliance
• Serve as liaison to developer/landlord representatives
• Monitor key dates to ensure contract terms and lease requirements are upheld
• Conduct site due diligence for acquisitions, expansions, and remodels
• Drive the creation and improvement of Construction SOPs and legal documentation
• Ensure contractor compliance with life safety/OSHA requirements

Requirements

• Experience in leading and managing construction teams
• Strong project management and facility management experience
• Experience in negotiating General Contractor contracts
• Familiarity with business process documentation and improvement
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads
• Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners
• MBA, Construction Management or related degree from an accredited university
