About the position

Provides and maintains organized and effective security for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Ensures established programs are implemented and maintained that provide for the care, welfare, safety, training, and security of patients, visitors, staff, and property. Functions as leader and role model for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Security Services. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe and secure environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies strategies and assists in development and implementation of programs and training that focus on personal protection, workplace violence, loss prevention, safety management, customer service, crime prevention, and emergency preparedness/disaster recovery.
  • Manages staffing to ensure 24/7 coverage for assigned location.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership and staff to ensure support and resources are available for staff and visitors for security-related matters.
  • Conducts investigations as requested.
  • Facilitates electronic security system process, including design and installation of access control and security cameras.
  • Provides support for and coordinates with other Children's Healthcare of Atlanta personnel in the Security and Safety departments through participation in Environmental Safety Management and Hazardous Waste Management committees.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with all Joint Commission environment of care standards and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration, National Fire Protection Association, Environmental Protection Agency, American National Standards Institute, and ASTM standards.
  • Responds to crisis situations and coordinates appropriate response actions.
  • Works closely with external agencies such as local, federal, and state law enforcement, fire, and Division of Family and Children Services to support hospital needs.
  • Maintains departmental budget.
  • Serves as Safety Manager, providing support and coordination for the safety management process through participation in Environmental Safety Management committee, surveillance programs, and safety education (Hughes Spalding only).
  • Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading a team including: interviewing, hiring, training, developing, directing work and processes, managing performance, recognizing, and rewarding employees.
  • Mentor team members to encourage personal and professional growth.
  • Encourage ongoing skill development by providing opportunities for continued education.

Requirements

  • 6 years of experience in security
  • 1 year of experience in budgets
  • Associate's degree in Security or Safety Management or 5 years of experience in a supervisory role in security/health and safety (other related education and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree)
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety basic certification within 6 months of employment, advanced certification within 9 months of employment, and supervisor certification within 12 months of employment (external candidates)
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety advanced certification upon consideration and supervisor certification within 3 months of promotion (internal candidates)
  • License and/or certification in one or more of law enforcement, private investigator, self defense instructor, Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Hazard Control Manager (CHCM), Certified Protection Officer (CPO)
