About the position

If you are looking for a position as a Manufacturing Engineer, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! Emerson is a manufacturer of large custom-designed control valves, you will work in a dynamic and high-tech production facility based in our Marshalltown, Iowa location.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex Tooling, Jigs, Fixtures, Functional Gauging and Facilities Equipment utilizing SolidWorks for the design work.
  • Troubleshoot issues in machining, tooling, or fixturing using root cause analysis tools to identify the source and provide corrective solutions.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the facilities capabilities to ensure accurate design for Tooling, Jigs, Fixturing and Gauging.
  • Design test equipment as needed to support all value streams.
  • Analyze equipment structural designs via the use of SolidWorks Simulation to determine appropriate safety factors and capacities.
  • Aid in streamlining the bridge between Engineering CAD and Manufacturing CAM.
  • Collaborate within the team and across departments on projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop fair and equitable time estimates.
  • Develop Appropriation Requests for new equipment or software and supported by appropriate cost justifications and reductions.
  • Determine specifications and initiate the purchase of materials and components in support of design requirements.
  • Mentor IE tooling co-ops by providing challenging projects as well as training in Emerson procedures, software and manufacturing practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology or equivalent experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Experienced in use of functional and measuring tooling for gauging requirements.
  • Strong understanding of material properties and statics to supplement FEA via SolidWorks Simulation software.
  • In depth mathematical knowledge of statics and trigonometry for design work.
  • CAD skills using SolidWorks.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Verbal and written communications skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Mechanical proficiency.
  • CAM skills using Edge CAM.
  • Computer application skills, Excel, Word, OneNote, OneDrive, SharePoint, AutoCAD, LabVIEW, Adobe Acrobat, Visio.
