About the position

Ducommun is an industry leader in fabrication of large, complex aircraft skins and leading edges. Manufacturing Engineer is needed to support all aspects of manufacturing complete skins including stretch forming, brake forming, hot forming, heat treatment, chemical milling, machining, chemical processing. Starting as a hardware supply store during the California Gold Rush and eventually assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed. Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications. Our facility in Orange, CA is a leading global supplier of large stretch formed aircraft skins, hot forming of titanium, superplastic forming and complex fastened and welded assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of manufacturing complete skins including stretch forming, brake forming, hot forming, heat treatment, chemical milling, machining, chemical processing.
  • Communicate with shop personnel to assist with proper tool usage and manufacturing procedures with special focus on 5-axis laser scriber.
  • Develop up-front manufacturing plans, conceptual tool designs, and cost estimating.
  • Define and implement solutions to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Develop reports, presentations, RCCA's and rework instructions.
  • Provide a strong technical interface with customers and vendors.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technical Degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of 5-axis NC machines and set-ups.
  • Critical thinking skills and good decision-making thought processes.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft and Outlook programs; highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills including the ability to articulate complex ideas in a simple manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate among all levels within the organization.
