About the position

Emerson Discrete Automation is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join their team in Elk River, Minnesota. In this role, you will collaborate with the Plant Manager to plan, develop, and support manufacturing processes. Your primary focus will be to enhance efficiency by analyzing equipment layout, workflow, assembly methods, systems, and workforce utilization to create and implement improvement plans. You will also be responsible for designing tooling, jigs, and fixtures necessary for the manufacturing of both new and existing products to meet manufacturing goals and product specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, organize, implement and document manufacturing processes necessary to produce Tescom products as determined by production and manufacturing needs.
  • Actively analyze and recommend ways to improve products, equipment, tooling and processes to increase overall quality, productivity, capacity, lead times and gross margins.
  • Lead and/or actively participate in Lean, 5S or other continuous improvement projects throughout manufacturing.
  • Provide technical support and information to other departments, suppliers and customers as requested.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems in production.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement technical training for employees in manufacturing departments.
  • Use scientific problem-solving tools in the execution of normal work assignments.
  • Create and maintain work orders for the manufacture and assembly of parts and products, assigning standard hours and times to work order operations and performing periodic time studies to verify standard accuracy.
  • Confirm and authorize material and design changes to assure manufacturability.
  • Design, develop, improve and procure tooling, gauging, jigs and fixtures for all areas of manufacturing.
  • Perform feasibility studies for capital equipment and prepare justifications using approved investment analysis techniques.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Relevant years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment commensurate with the level of this position.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal/written) optimally with customers, suppliers and employees.
  • Knowledge of scientific problem-solving tools (DOE, TQ, SPC, etc.).
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • Proven record of working and making decisions independently and leading others to the completion of assigned tasks.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
