The Marine Deck Officer Warrant Officer MOS 880A/MOS 88K Technical Instructor/Writer will provide support to the US Army Transportation School, Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE) MITD-Simulator Operator/Technical Instructor Support Services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical instruction and training development support in all 880A1/2 Marine Deck Officer AIT, PME and functional training courses.
  • Cover fundamentals and basic skills of Army watercraft operation including Deck Seamanship, Vessel Watch Standing, Vessel Piloting, Vessel Electronic Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Shipboard Damage Control, Shipboard Firefighting, Water Survival, Watercraft Safety, Ship handling, Tugboat Operation, and Maritime Simulation utilization.
  • Follow a well-standardized method/approach for all courses in the field of Army vessel and maritime operations.
  • Conduct hands-on instruction on various tasks (firefighting, damage control, ship handling), answer questions and follow-up on questions requiring additional research.
  • Update lesson plans and review and incorporate lessons learned from CALL.
  • Review POIs, field manuals, and technical manuals to support classroom instruction prior to class beginning.
  • Develop and/or modify lesson plans for assigned area of instruction or for groups of other instructors.
  • Determine the best way to convey course material using a combination of teaching methods.
  • Maintain an instructor to student ratio of no more than 1:12 for up to 24 students.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be able to physically conduct simulator operator/technical instructor/writer duties in a classroom, simulator, live training aid, and/or ship environment.
  • Standing for extended periods of time on hard decks or floors exposed to heat and cold conditions is common when conducting live training events.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems, and recommend solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013, and Outlook 2013.
  • Minimum education level is a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Army military education/experience in instructing and writing.
  • Minimum 10 years of prior military service as a Warrant Officer with demonstrated experience level commensurate with a Warrant Officer assignment onboard an Army watercraft.
  • Actual shipboard experience in Deck Seamanship, Vessel Watch Standing, Vessel Piloting, Vessel Electronic Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Shipboard Damage Control, Shipboard Firefighting, Water Survival, Watercraft Safety, Ship handling, and Tugboat Operation.
  • Physically able to launch and recover FRBs from a trailer, operate an FRB in calm and adverse weather conditions, stand for periods of 3 to 4 hours continuously, and lift 50 pounds without injury.
  • Completed the Initial Military Training (IMT) and Professional Military Education (PME) courses required for the specific MOS.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
