About the position

Zurich is seeking a Middle Markets Property Underwriter to join our team in the South region, specifically in one of the following office locations: Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, or Dallas. In this role, you will be responsible for handling complex new and renewal Middle Markets property/casualty business. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will have the opportunity to fully apply and enhance your property underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with Select Brokers in the South region. This is an exciting time to join the Middle Markets division at Zurich, where you will serve as a customer industry advocate focused on improving the customer experience by understanding their risks and offering the best end-to-end solutions for their insurance needs. Your responsibilities will include using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing. You will leverage risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale. Identifying gaps and aligning Zurich's products and value proposition will be crucial in providing the contract certainty that customers require. You will demonstrate strong analytical skills and act as an innovative advisor, underwriting, analyzing, and generating new and renewal business. Your market-facing presence will be vital in the growing Middle Markets property division in the South region, where you will administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules. Additionally, you will develop and maintain agency and broker relationships while working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments. Casualty experience is considered a plus for this role. This position may be filled at either the Mid-Senior or Senior level, depending on the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Responsibilities

• Use a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Leverage risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Identify gaps and align Zurich's products and value proposition to offer solutions that provide contract certainty for customers.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and execute as an innovative advisor.
• Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business.
• Maintain a market-facing presence and production within the growing Middle Markets property division in the South region.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
• Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (for Senior level).
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (for Senior level).
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (for Senior level).
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (for Senior level).

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of positions of increasing responsibility
• CPCU and ARM a plus
