About the position

As a Marketing Specialist at Smithfield Foods, you will play a crucial role in leveraging data metrics to enhance the profitability of specific brand categories within the company. This position involves collaborating with various teams, including sales and business management operations, to ensure that the best products are delivered to customers and consumers. You will assist the marketing department in creating marketing materials and plans that support sound business recommendations and programs. Your responsibilities will include collecting information for data sheets, promotional publications, presentations, and brochures, as well as preparing draft versions of these materials. In this role, you will focus on identifying mutually beneficial opportunities that promote both brand and category growth. You will work effectively with internal partners, external vendors, and customers to deliver best-in-class programs that align with the overall business strategy. The Marketing Specialist will also be responsible for gathering data on existing or potential customers, competitors, and market segments to develop targeted marketing strategies. Additionally, you will measure and analyze results to determine return on investment (ROI) and continuously improve capabilities and processes to drive superior results. Overall, this position requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while building strong working relationships and fostering a positive work atmosphere. You will be expected to travel up to 30% of the time to support marketing activities across various markets, brands, or product lines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the marketing department with the creation of marketing materials and plans.
  • Collect data measuring the viability of new markets and assist in the creation of market development plans.
  • Assist in the development of an integrated brand image and message throughout all advertising, packaging, and promotional efforts.
  • Support the execution of category strategy via event, digital, and trade marketing tactics.
  • Coordinate marketing activities for one or more markets, brands, or product/category lines.
  • Gather data on existing or potential customers, competitors, or market segments for use in the development of targeted marketing strategies.
  • Measure and analyze results to determine ROI.
  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Agencies, and Business Management to develop data-driven solutions.
  • Continuously improve capabilities and processes to drive superior results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • 1+ years of experience working with syndicated data (technomac, dataessential, etc.), preferred.
  • Ability to synthesize data from multiple resources to build actionable recommendations.
  • Must have analytical skills using PC based applications (Windows, Excel, Powerpoint) with emphasis on Excel Pivot Tables to manipulate & synthesize data.
  • Demonstrated strengths in analysis and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with enthusiasm and impact both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in a cross-functional environment with both internal and external team members.
  • Strong ability to clearly communicate ideas, both verbally and in writing in a fashion appropriate to various levels of the organization.
  • Self-starter and driven with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects is critical.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
