About the position

The Master Aircraft Technician A&P at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is a pivotal role that requires a high level of expertise in aircraft maintenance and repair. This position is based in Van Nuys and involves working independently as well as in a leadership capacity to perform a variety of aircraft modifications and maintenance functions. The technician will be recognized as a technical expert on in-service aircraft, responsible for executing repairs and installations that demand precision and adherence to strict timelines. The role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to consistently complete maintenance tasks within the quoted or standard CMP time. In this position, the technician will provide work direction to assigned technicians, promoting high standards of quality through instruction and example. Acting on behalf of the lead technician in their absence, the Master Aircraft Technician will assume responsibilities such as leading team meetings and coordinating with inspection teams to ensure compliance with internal and FAA inspection and documentation requirements. The technician will also be responsible for properly identifying and securely storing customer property and equipment, as well as following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job safety analyses (JSAs) when operating ground support equipment (GSE). Additionally, the technician will mentor and assist in training new employees on various maintenance procedures and documentation, ensuring they are well-versed in the use of maintenance manuals, service repair manuals, and compliance records. The role includes participation in safety management systems (SMS), problem-solving initiatives, and process implementation, supporting lean activities to enhance operational efficiency. The technician will maintain current knowledge of industry standards and warranty programs, identifying risks and recommending mitigation options to leadership. Overall, this position is essential for maintaining the high standards of Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation's service center operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform required periodic maintenance and necessary servicing of all aircraft mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently perform assigned maintenance tasks within the quoted or standard CMP time.
  • Provide work direction for assigned technicians and promote high standards of quality through instruction and example.
  • Act on behalf of the lead technician in their absence and assume duties and responsibilities, including leading team meetings.
  • Coordinate with inspection to ensure compliance with internal and FAA inspection and documentation requirements.
  • Properly identify and tag customer property and equipment, storing aircraft components securely.
  • Follow SOPs and JSAs when operating GSE and supervise the use of special support equipment in the removal and installation of major components.
  • Coordinate the movement of aircraft as required.
  • Act as a mentor and assist in training new employees in CMPs, maintenance manuals, SRMs, IPC usage, and compliance records.
  • Coordinate with other departments to arrange for the overhaul or repair of customer property as needed.
  • Participate in SMS, including investigations and participation in the Site Safety Council.
  • Assist or lead problem-solving initiatives and process implementation, supporting Lean activities.
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses of assigned members and provide diverse learning opportunities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, vendor information, and all procedures related to product support maintenance.
  • Assist in maintaining work schedules and current knowledge of warranty and parts programs.
  • Identify risks and recommend mitigation options to leadership.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 8 years of Aviation Maintenance experience, including 4 years working on Gulfstream mid/large size aircraft.
  • Corporate aircraft experience preferred.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Advanced knowledge of inspection and maintenance procedures for various aircraft models and systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of pertinent technical reference materials such as maintenance manuals, IPCs, and engineering drawings.
  • Advanced knowledge of FAA regulations, process specifications, and company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Gulfstream aircraft models.
  • Familiarity with Lean/CI processes and initiatives.
