About the position

The Materials & Processes Engineer will play a crucial role in advising and guiding on materials and processes for both intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments. This position focuses on materials selection, process control, and ensuring compliance with specifications for spaceflight hardware, contributing to NASA's deep space exploration initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on requirements for Materials & Processes (M&P) for IVA and EVA environments.
  • Provide input to program/project specifications to ensure materials requirements are met.
  • Review project documentation and engineering drawings for M&P compliance.
  • Assess vendor processes and define necessary changes for compliance.
  • Recommend qualification and acceptance testing for vendors.
  • Provide inspection and manufacturing process support for human space flight systems.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5-10 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge in materials and processes for space applications.
  • Familiarity with metallurgy, including aluminum and titanium alloys.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10 or more years of related work experience with materials and processes.
  • Direct work experience in Metallurgy (heat treatment, corrosion control, etc.).
  • Knowledge of industry standards for materials specifications.
  • Previous experience in material selection for electrical components.
  • Experience with contamination control and molecular outgassing testing.
  • Experience in human space flight system engineering.
